Nichiren Daishonin’s Writings

“Be that as it may, commit yourself to the Lotus Sutra and have faith in its teachings. You must not only believe in them yourself, but also encourage others to do the same, so that you may save those who were your parents in all past existences.” (WND-1, 962-65)

Sensei’s Guidance

The Daishonin is urging Tokimitsu to follow him in faith, and to live and strive alongside him, always advancing together in faith. He also tellsTokimitsu
that by remaining steadfast in faith, he Tokimitsu, will not only be able to attain enlightenment himself, but be able to lead those who were his parents
in all past existences to enlightenment as well. This meant, in other words, that Tokimitsu would be able to help guide to the path of Buddhahood all those
he encountered or had connections with in this lifetime. (Gosho Booklet 2014, p.80)

Nichiren Daishonin’s Writings

“You should not have the slightest fear in your heart. It is lack of courage that prevents one from attaining Buddhahood…” The Three Obstacles and Four
Devils (WND 1,637)

Sensei’s Guidance

“Just focus on being the one who brings happiness and harmony in your family. When you expand your own state of life, you will be able to realize a happy and harmonious environment.” (Study booklet p69. President Ikeda’s Study Lecture Series: “The Three Obstacles and Four Devils”)

South group meetings in the last week of August

Two local meetings this coming week:

• Our next group discussion meeting will be this coming Sunday, 31 August, 10 for 10.30am at Mary’s.
• We’ll be chanting for the success of the discussion meeting on Wednesday (27 August) at 9.30am, also at Mary’s. Everyone welcome – please let Mary know if she should expect you.

The discussion meeting theme: The Buddhist view of justice.

‘Ralph Waldo Emerson says, “Good-nature is plentiful, but we want justice with a heart of steel, to fight down the proud.” If people are merely good-natured, then those who are arrogant and high-handed will have free reign to carry on as they please. Only those who fight with hearts of steel are people of justice.’ – Daisaku Ikeda, Buddhism Day by Day, 23 August.

SGI-SA 2014 national course, 31 Oct – 2 Nov

Dear regional leaders,

Thank you very much for all your hard work for Kosen Rufu in your area.

We are happy to announce the theme for the National Course 2014! Thank you to those of you who sent suggestions.

Emerge and Unite, for Kosen Rufu in Africa!

“Emerge” represent our efforts to reveal our deepest desire as the Bodhisattva of the Earth to reveal our true potential and work for the happiness of others.  “Unite” is the most essential action that requires us to achieve Kosen Rufu in Africa. This starts with being united in our prayers to realise our
mentor’s vision that “the 21st century is the century of Africa”.

Let us make the National Course a great opportunity to advance Kosen Rufu in Africa, starting from now.  We, as the national leaders, have started chanting together for 1 hour between 5:30 and 7am every weekday morning, for a wonderful course without any accident.  It will be great if you could join us.

As you know, we have only 150 places on the course and registration is based on “First Come, First Served” basis. Please start the application process rolling in your region so that members will be able to attend the course. Read the guidelines carefully so that the process goes smoothly.

Here is the online application link.
http://www.sgi-sa.org.za/2014-national-course/

Your application is only valid with a minimum of R100 deposit.

Thank you so much and we look forward to seeing you all on the course.

Nichiren Daishonin’s Writings

“You must be firmly resolved. Do not begrudge your fief; do not think of your wife and children. And do not depend on others. You must simply make up your mind. Look at the world this year as a mirror. The reason that you have survived until now when so many have died was so that you would meet with this affair. This is where you will cross the Uji River. This is where you will ford the Seta. This will determine whether you win honour or disgrace your name. This is what is meant when it is said that it is difficult to be born as a human being, and that it is difficult to believe in the Lotus Sutra.” (WND-1,
829)

Sensei’s Guidance

“Even a seemingly small, individual act for the sake of right, justice, and truth has positive value that ultimately affects and concerns everyone. That means that even if you embark on such a struggle all on your own, there will definitely be people of like mind who will share your aspirations; you will have comrades who will strive alongside you. Your victory, too, will not only be yours, but a victory for all those who are suffering.” – SGI-SA Gosho Study book for 2014; Page 64,
